Description
Land Rover 90 ‘Winter Water Wolf’ Background:
- The Land Rover ‘Winter Water Wolf’ is a modified version of the Defender 90 Wolf, commissioned by the British Royal Marines for amphibious landing tasks and extreme cold weather deployment.
- As part of the REMUS project, the Ministry of Defence modified its fleet of Wold Land Rovers with a front roll-over protection system, rear retracting seat belts, wright off-road front and rear anti-vibration acoustic matting, Dinitrol wax injection of chassis / bulkhead, chassis underseal, as well as the improved and desirable R380 gearbox.
- Most of the vehicles were used for tactical landings, many of which were exposed to excessive sea water.
Overview of this Land Rover Defender 90 ‘Winter Water Wolf’:
- One of only 50 examples and displays 95,352 Kms (59,248 miles) from new.
- A well-cared for example of a rare ex military 4×4 offered for sale by its first civilian owner who has preserved most authentic military features.
- Powered by a 2.4 litre 300Tdi engine, powering all four wheels via the 5-speed R380 transmission.
- First registered in 1999 for the MoD, it was purchased by the current owner and registered with the DVLA in April 2021 under their business name, before being transferred to personal ownership in October 2021.
- This example was kept in reserve and used as a radio car, as when purchased from MoD, the current owner had to remove the radio table in the rear to make practical for civilian use. They also removed the front rifle rack and external antenna.

- The vehicle’s last MOT test was conducted on 12 September 2023 at 93,692 Kms, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. However, the vehicle has just had new front brakes fitted.
Exterior & Interior CONDITION
- The vehicle was selected by the owner due to the absence of corrosion to the chassis and bulkhead, both of which are still in excellent condition. The seller notes that:
- There is a dent on the offside front wing.
- Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
- Slight scuffs on the rear ‘dumb iron’, and wear to the steering wheel, but nothing compared to the action some of these would have seen.
